The creamy homestyle vanilla frosting recipe by Crisco is a popular recipe that uses Crisco all-vegetable shortening as well as milk, powdered sugar, vanilla and salt. The frosting takes approximately 10 minutes to prepare.

To prepare this Crisco vanilla frosting recipe, begin by dissolving 1 teaspoon of salt in 2/3 cup milk. Place this mixture into a medium-sized bowl along with 2/3 cup Crisco all-vegetable shortening and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Alternatively, use 2/3 of a Crisco baking stick of all-vegetable shortening. Beat the mixture with the flat blade of a stand mixer or with an electric mixer on low speed while gradually pouring in a 2-pound bag or 7 1/2 cups of powdered sugar. Turn off the beater and scrape the sides of the bowl with a plastic spatula.

Turn up the mixer speed to beat the mixture until it is fluffy and all lumps are gone, which normally takes less than 1 minute. To achieve optimal spreading consistency, add additional powdered sugar 1 tablespoon at a time if the frosting is too thin, or add milk if it is too thick. The recipe produces approximately 4 cups of frosting, and each serving of 2 tablespoons has 80 calories, 2 grams of fat and 40 milligrams of sodium.
