The reason for Mike Waltrip's divorce was because he grew distant from his wife, Elizabeth Franks. The two had been married for 17 years before their divorce in 2010, according to ESPN.
The race car driver had lost several races in the course of his career, and that made him yearn to help his team win. His dedication to helping everyone led him to neglect his marriage. The worst misfortune, however, happened when he lost his friend and team mate Dale Earnhardt in a terrible racing accident.
Dale's death affected Waltrip. He was always evasive when asked questions about that fateful day. Waltrip also didn't seek proper help in how to deal with the stress, and that in return affected his marriage, leading to the divorce, claims ESPN.
