On average, real pearls are valued between $300 and $1,500. The value of pearls depends on a number of factors including their color, size, luster, shape and variety.
Real pearls, also called natural pearls, have not been altered or synthetically made. The three main types of pearls found on the market are Akoya, freshwater and south sea pearls.
The most valuable real pearls are white with a rose undertone, a perfect round shape and have few or no blemishes. Similar to diamonds and other precious gemstones, the value of pearls also goes up with the size. The easiest way to tell a natural pearl from a synthetic pearl is to gently rub it against a tooth. If it feels gritty, it is likely a real pearl.
