The Newberry Award winning book was first published in 1952 by Harper and Brothers. It tells of the friendship between Wilbur, a farm pig, and Charlotte, a spider. After the farmer is convinced of Wilbur's value as a show pig, Wilbur makes it his duty to protect the egg sacs that Charlotte has laid. Charlotte soon dies, and Wilbur continues to watch after her offspring for generations thereafter.
