What Are Quality Points on a College Transcript?

Quality points are points that are used to determine the grade point average or GPA of a student. Each grade, such as A, B+ or C-, has specific quality points.

A student gets quality points based on the grade he or she received in a particular course. Each of these is indicated on the transcript so as to calculate the total points a person has. The total quality points per course is calculated by multiplying credit hours (hours earned) with the quality points of the grade received. The sum of the total quality points of all courses is divided with the total number of hours to get the grade point average (GPA).
