What Is a PUCO Apples to Apples Gas Chart?

The PUCO Apples to Apples gas chart is a tool allowing Ohio natural gas customers to compare rates and fees from all natural gas suppliers in the state. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio produces the Apples to Apples chart to give consumers real time information about gas prices.

The most important piece of information on the PUCO Apples to Apples gas chart is the amount of money that each gas provider charges per unit volume of natural gas. The standard volumetric unit for natural gas in the United States is the centum cubic foot. One ccf equals 100 cubic feet of natural gas. The PUCO Apples to Apples chart lists the standard choice offer of one ccf in relation to the ccf rate that each provider charges. The standard choice offer is the price of one ccf of natural gas as defined by commodities traders at the New York Mercantile Exchange.

In addition to the actual rate each gas company charges for natural gas itself, the chart also has information about introductory offers, term length limits, early term fees or extra monthly fees from all companies on the chart. The chart displays whether each company uses a fixed rate for its natural gas or whether it uses a variable rate that changes according to the current standard choice offer.
