What Is the Proper Hand Towel Bar Height?
Last Updated Mar 24, 2020 7:35:02 PM ET

The standard height for a hand towel bar or ring is 48 inches (4 feet) from the floor according to the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This height provides adequate space below the bar for the towels to hang freely while ensuring it is easily accessible.
For a children's bathroom, the recommended height is 36 inches (3 feet) from the floor. Towel bars or rings placed above a toilet should be 21 to 28 inches from the top of the toilet. These recommended towel bar heights are based on the height of the average person. If a bathroom does not require ADA compliance, then the towel bar should be placed at a height suitable for those who will use it often.
