How Do You Program a Remote for a Model 209 Genie Garage Door?

To program a remote for a Genie garage door, first press the “learn code” button on the back of the garage opener unit, then press the button on the remote twice. An LED light on the main unit will indicate if the remote has been found by the unit.

Genie garage door remote units can easily sync up with the opener’s main unit. By syncing a remote with the garage door opener, the garage door can be opened wirelessly when the remote is close enough to the opener.

  1. Make sure the remote and the garage opener’s main unit are near each other.
  2. To make sure that the remote and the main unit will sync up and that the LED light on the main unit is visible, stand in the garage under the garage opener’s main unit with the remote.

  3. Press the “Learn Code” button on the main unit.
  4. Locate the “Learn Code” button on the back of the main unit and press it. An LED light on the unit should start to blink.

  5. Use the remote to sync the remote with the main unit.
  6. Press the button on the remote once. The LED light on the main unit should now stop blinking and stay on. Press the button one more time to make the LED light turn off. The remote and the main garage opening unit should now be in sync.
