The traditional home of the Pope is a papal apartment area in the Apostolic Palace inside the Vatican City, which is a small city-state inside Italy. Pope Francis, who remains in his role as of 2014, opted to reside in a Vatican guesthouse where he lived prior to becoming Pope.
Pope Francis wanted to show his commitment to the people that he serves by living within a community environment. The Pope does use various features of the papal apartments. The apartments include a private chapel, papal offices, secretarial offices and access to a large library, along with large living room spaces.
