What Is the PLATO Learning Environment?
The PLATO Learning Environment is the online learning management system that provides access to PLATO courses. The web browser-based learning environment provides course materials, assignments and exams; it tracks student usage and progress so teachers can monitor and individualize each student’s learning.
Students learn from videos, readings and interactive multimedia activities in the PLATO environment. They do some assignments and tests online and can upload others. Students can communicate with teachers and other students via a threaded discussion feature.
Teachers can view reports and charts on student progress. They can add, remove or change the order of course content to individualize student learning.
PLATO courses align to Common Core and state education standards. The kindergarten through 12th grade courses foster achievement for students taking a course for the first time, for credit recovery, for unit recovery or as supplemental learning for advanced students. Schools use PLATO in labs and blended classrooms, and it is also available to homeschoolers.
PLATO offers core curriculum courses from elementary school reading essentials to Advanced Placement calculus. High school-level electives include Anthropology, Computer Applications and Technology, Gothic Literature: Monster Stories, Social Issues and Veterinary Science. GED, SAT, ACT and other exam prep courses are also available. Career course offerings are Applied Medical Terminology, Drafting & Design, Game Development and Introduction to Fashion Design.
