Why Do People Work?
Last Updated Mar 27, 2020 12:40:36 AM ET
The most compelling reason people work is usually to earn money. However, people also work to engage in a personal passion, to achieve personal fulfillment, to challenge themselves, to grow and to have a place to belong.
Since people often have choices on where to work and earn money, other motivations impact whether an employer attracts and retains talented workers. When people have a chance to pursue a passion and find fulfillment in a job, they are often more driven to perform at a high level. Training and development in an organization are incentives to people looking for personal challenges or growth. An organization's culture plays a role by creating a sense of belonging.
