Why Do Some People Wear Rubber Bands on Their Wrists?
Many people use a rubber band on their wrist to help control unwanted thoughts or feelings, such as anxiety, anger and negative thoughts about themselves. By simply snapping the rubber band on their wrists when they feel the onset of unwanted feelings or behaviors, sufferers can refocus their thoughts on what is important.
A rubber band on the wrist can also be used to help people to train themselves to discontinue behaviors they do not like about themselves, such as getting a second helping of food they do not require or swearing. The rubber band trick is not a cure for any problems sufferers may be going through, but can be used as a coping mechanism. It does not replace counseling for those with hostile or anxious thoughts and other avenues of treatment should still be continued.
