Why Do People Put Stars on Their Houses?

Stars are mainly used as decoration, but they can also have symbolic meanings ranging from luck to protection. The most common one is a five-pointed star, also referred to as the “barnstar.” It is a decorative object with no structural purpose but is mounted on doorways to ward off evil spirits.

Stars on houses are very common in Pennsylvania. The history of barnstars can be tracked back to the 1700s. Normally, they are made out of different grades of metal and come in a variety of colors. Each color has a certain significance and meaning. Blue and black signify protection, while green means fertility, success and growth. Brown barnstars represent strength, friendship and mother earth.
