Is It Okay to Drink 7-Up for an Upset Stomach?
Sweetened clear sodas, such as 7-Up, ginger ale and Sprite, are good for drinking with an upset stomach because they have a better chance of staying down, according to Cleveland Clinic. When someone has an upset stomach, it’s crucial for him to replace the liquids he has lost. Patients should avoid drinking caffeinated beverages and stick to water, sports drinks, popsicles and decaffeinated tea.
Drinking too many liquids at once can cause upset stomach to worsen. Drinking frequent and small amounts of liquids can help to ensure the patient is receiving enough liquid to prevent dehydration, but not too much that it would cause more vomiting or diarrhea. For the first 24 to 36 hours of a stomach bug, patients should stick to a diet of clear liquids only.
