Is It OK to Cook Frozen Sausages?

Consumers can cook frozen sausage links or patties without defrosting them first. The time it takes to cook frozen sausages varies depending on which preparation method consumers choose to prepare the meat.

To bake frozen sausage links or patties, consumers preheat their ovens to 325 F. Then, consumers place the frozen sausage patties or links in a shallow baking pan and bake the links for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown on the outside and no longer pink on the inside. Then, according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service, a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, consumers must let the cooked meat products rest at room temperature for a total of three minutes. This all-important final step ensures that the residual heat produced from cooking the meat kills any harmful germs that might be present in the meat.

To pan-fry frozen sausage links or patties, consumers place them in a skillet over medium-high heat, and cook them for 12 to 18 minutes, or until no longer pink inside and golden brown on the outside. Then, consumers also rest the pan-fried patties or links for three minutes before consuming to ensure that any harmful bacteria lurking in the cooked meat is destroyed.
