Nubuck leather is made from top-grain cowhide. Nubuck looks very similar to suede, but the two are created using different sides of the hide.

Nubuck leather is made from the exterior or grain side of the animal hide, making it tough and durable leather. Because of its resistance to wear and tear, nubuck is often used for making shoes.

Nubuck leather scratches easily but will not remain stained from water. Sanding the hide during processing creates the fine fibers that stand up on nubuck and makes it feel velvety-soft to the touch. A stiff brush is recommended for cleaning nubuck leather products.
