Prisms are utilized in eyeglasses to correct positional issues and double vision, according to Glasses Crafter. Prism eyeglasses are also beneficial to individuals who suffer from hemianopia, a condition that causes partial blindness in both eyes. Prism glasses train the eyes to work together, allowing for proper positioning and focusing.
Prism glasses are also utilized to treat strabismus, an eye alignment condition in which the eyes do not focus correctly, according to the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Individuals with strabismus often suffer from depth perception issues, and the prisms work to align the eyes. Strabismus typically develops in childhood but can also occur in adult stroke victims.
