Straight Talk phones require a code to unlock. Straight Talk will provide this code upon request, provided that the customer originally activated the phone with Straight Talk and maintained one year of wireless service with the company.
Straight Talk’s device unlocking policy is consistent with federal requirements. Federal law dictates that a pre-paid carrier must provide unlock codes to customers upon request within one year of activating service. If a customer does not have an account with the company or does not maintain service for one year, then Straight Talk is not legally required to provide that customer with an unlock code.
