What Is Necessary to Get a Tattoo License in California?

The state of California requires all tattoo artists to register with their local public health enforcement agency. At the time of registration, the artist must provide proof of age, Hepatitis B vaccination or exemption forms and documentation showing that the person has completed the required bloodborne pathogen training.

Those people seeking registration as tattoo artists for the first time must also show documentation stating where and when the mandatory 6-month experience required took place. All applicants must give the location where they plan to practice and pay the required registration fee. Additional business permits may also be required if the artist is also to be the shop owner.
