Not only are Muslim women allowed to shave, they are required to do so. The Muslim code of personal hygiene, Sunan al-Fitra, requires all Muslims, whether they are male or female, to remove any body hair from the neck down, including hair around the genital region and anus.

In addition to the removal of body hair, Muslim women are encouraged to remove any abnormal facial hair, and to tidy up the eyebrows, but not change their shape. The general rule of thumb is that if there is any hair that makes a woman ugly, especially to her husband, it is to be removed.
