How Much Space Is Needed for a Stackable Washer and Dryer?

The space for a stackable washer and dryer unit needs to accommodate the standard width of either 24 or 27 inches and a height of 70 to 75 inches. The space also needs to allow the doors on the washer and dryer to open completely.

The two standard width options allow a stackable washer and dryer unit to fit in small laundry rooms, apartments or closets. The height is also shorter than the combined height or a standard washer and dryer, which is about 80 inches. Despite the compact size, the unit still needs enough clearance to function properly, including about 1 inch on the sides, 6 inches at the top and 4 inches in the back.
