The average school uses approximately 250,000 pieces of paper per school year, according to Edutopia. This estimate is based on an average of 50 reams of paper per teacher at a 100-teacher school.

Because of the large amounts of paper used in schools, there is a movement for schools to become paper-less. An average school spends approximately $25,000 on paper each year, and that does not include the maintenance, toner and ink that add to the printing costs. In order for schools to become paperless, they would have to invest in enough technology to allow all students to access and store their work on a digital platform.
