Chad Knaus' salary is not released to the public. Just as NASCAR driver contracts are kept confidential, so are those of crew.
Sometimes contracted salaries are leaked to the public. This happened in the case of Jason Myers, former crew chief for Carl Edwards. It was revealed that between 2008 and 2010, his base salary was $110,472.96. He was also due to receive an annual increase of at least 4 percent (around $4,400).
Although his salary is unknown, Chad Knaus, with his reputation as one of the sport's greatest crew chiefs, was not expected by Bleacher Report to have a problem paying his $100,000 fine in 2012. This gives some idea of his income and worth.
