According to Rawr Denim, a pair of jeans can weigh anywhere from 12 to 32 ounces. Jeans can be categorized by the weight of a square yard of denim, which is based on the density of the thread.
Lightweight jeans, which are under 12 ounces, are easy to break in and wear comfortably from the time of purchase. Mid-weight denim ranges from 12 to 16 ounces. This fabric starts out stiff but becomes softer with time. It lasts longer than lightweight denim and is warmer to wear. Heavyweight jeans run from 16 to 32 ounces. The fabric is very strong and stiff initially, and the jeans are extremely warm. These jeans last a long time, but also take a long time to become comfortable.
