The actual cost of a helicopter varies depending on many factors, including age, size and available features on a particular unit. As of 2014, basic helicopters typically start around $120,000 for a two-seat pre-owned unit, and can escalate to several million dollars for the large commercial or luxury models.
The base price of a new two-seat unit starts at about $250,000, while four-seat units begin at about $340,000. Some helicopters can be built from kits with base prices around $35,000. Maintenance and fuel costs vary according to the model and must be factored into the overall cost of helicopter ownership.
