Depending on the type of fish, you should serve between 1/3 a pound and a pound of fish per person. The types of fish are whole round, dressed, cleaned, fillets and steaks.
Three-quarters of a pound to a pound is the proper serving size for a whole round fish. A half to 3/4 a pound is the proper serving size for cleaned and dressed fish. One-third to half a pound of fish is the proper serving size for steaks. Half a pound of fish is the proper serving size of fillets. When buying fish you should buy fish that appears fresh. Fresh fish should not have any strong odor.
