How Much Did the Titanic Weigh?

The RMS Titanic weighed 46,328 tons gross with a displacement of 52,310 tons. The ship set out for its first voyage on April 10, 1912. It sank on April 14, 1912 after hitting an iceberg, killing over 1,500 people.

The Titanic was one of three luxury liners of White Star Line vessels and was called “unsinkable.” It left Southampton, England with 2,216 passengers destined for New York City. The ship struck the iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on April 14, 1912 and was completely sunk by 2:20 a.m. Several factors contributed to the loss of life. Only 19 lifeboats had been stored on the ship and each could only carry a maximum of 65 people. Many third class passengers became trapped on the Titanic. In addition, the closest ship was four hours away.
