Passenger car tires weigh about 22 pounds, while light truck tires that fit rims up to 17 inches in diameter weigh about 35 pounds. The tire of a semi-truck or large truck can weigh as much as 120 pounds.

The weight of a car tire decreases gradually as the rubber wears off. A passenger car tire, for instance, that weighs 25 pounds when new may weigh about 20 pounds at the point where it can no longer be used due to wear and tear. A large truck tire, on the other hand, that weighs 120 pounds when new may weigh about 100 pounds when worn out. Heavy tires and wheels can reduce a car’s fuel economy and increase the time it takes for the vehicle to accelerate.
