A Canadian quarter from the years 2000 through 2014 has a weight of 4.4 grams, or .15 ounces. First issued in 1870, the Canadian quarter’s weight was established in 1908 at 5.81 grams, or .20 ounces. Figures for the weight of the quarter before 1908 are not available.

Between 1910 and 1967, the weight of the quarter increased slightly to 5.83 grams, or .20 ounces. In 1920, the silver content of the quarter dropped from 92.5 percent to 80 percent, but the weight was not altered until 1967. In 1967, the quarter’s weight was lowered to 5.05 grams, or .179 ounces, and the silver content dropped to half. This weight was maintained until 1999, despite the fact that after 1968, the quarter was 99.9 percent nickel.
