How Much Does a Bag of Sugar Weigh?

White, granulated sugar packaged for consumers typically weighs 1, 2, 4, 5, 10 or 25 pounds. Other common sugars, such as confectioner’s sugar and brown sugar, are usually sold in 2-pound bags.

Although available package weights are usually multiples of 2 or 5 pounds, not all companies offer all sizes. According to the companies’ websites, for example, Domino’s sugar is available in 5-pound and 25-pound bags, whereas Imperial’s sugar is available in 2-pound and 4-pound bags.

The Daily Beast notes that some sugar producers are packaging smaller quantities of sugar in bags that look like the sizes consumers are accustomed to seeing. This, the Daily Beast notes, is the producers’ way of maximizing profits while keeping prices relatively stable.
