What Is the Moral of “Sleeping Beauty”?
The moral to the story “Sleeping Beauty” is that love is the most powerful force in the world. Another possible moral is that one must be careful whom he offends in life, whether or not the offense is deliberate.
In the Grimm Brothers’ version of “Sleeping Beauty,” the king and queen neglect to invite one of the fairies to the feast honoring their baby girl. The reason is that they do not have enough dinnerware to invite another guest. The fairy is enraged and puts a curse on the baby. Years later, Sleeping Beauty pricks her finger and falls asleep, just as the fairy had said. Nothing awakens her until the prince comes along and kisses her. This is evidence that love destroys even the evil intentions that the fairy had for Sleeping Beauty, suggesting that love is more powerful than hate.
