According to Forbes, Bill Gates is the wealthiest person in the world. As of 2014. Gates’ fortune is $77 billion and comes from his founding stake in tech giant Microsoft.
Gates stepped down as Microsoft chairman in February of 2014, in order to focus more on helping Microsoft product managers regain lost market share. Gates also spends a significant amount of his time and wealth on philanthropy, including his foundation’s continuing effort to eliminate polio. Gates is particularly concerned with getting other millionaires and billionaires involved in philanthropy, having secured $335 million in pledges from other wealthy individuals in the fight against polio. As of 2014, Gates has ranked as Forbes’ wealthiest individual 15 out of the last 20 years.
