Was Michelangelo Blind?

Michelangelo, famed artist and creator of a number of masterpieces, was not blind. However, while painting the ceiling of the Sistine chapel, his health and eyesight drastically deteriorated due to eating only stale bread and laying in awkward positions for weeks.

In order to paint the ceiling, 37-year-old Michelangelo had to lay on a scaffold each day, which caused cramps. Paint also continuously dripped into his face, contributing to his health and eyesight issues. Michelangelo insisted on doing all of the work himself, and it took him just under four years to complete. It includes over 300 figures, and in the center is his most famous image, The Creation of Adam.
