Meats that are considered red meats are beef, pork and lamb. These meats are red when they are raw. In the United States, beef is the most popular type of red meat. This is the muscle meat of cattle.
Pork is meat that comes from the muscles of pigs. Pork is similar to beef when it comes to protein and fat, but must be cooked till it is completely done because the flesh may harbor parasites. Some cuts of pork, such as bacon, are high in salt and other additives.
Lamb is meat from a young sheep. Meat from a sheep older than a year is called mutton. Lamb generally has a milder taste than mutton.
