According to Corsinet.com, a superstition exists that presages death when a bird, living or dead, is found in a dwelling. Nature Center Magazine supports the claim in the article, “Eerie Bird Superstitions,” stating that a bird flying into the house means a change is on the way, whether it is death or a change of residence.

Nature Center Magazine says that birds that fly into windows, tap on windows or look into them are considered messengers of death by those who believe in the oracle.

The actress Lucille Ball believed the superstition, as she did not want any kind of bird images inside her home. She also refused to stay at a hotel that displayed pictures of birds in its decor. The actress’s antipathy was attributed to her father’s death in 1915 when, according to Snopes.com, a bird flew into the house that she shared with her family.

Omens about death are also attributed to time, according to Corsinet.com. The site says one superstition warns that hearing the sudden chime of a non-working clock means that a death will follow. The site states that bad luck will also ensue if a clock is not stopped in a death room. Hearing a howling dog at night is considered a death omen too.
