According to Boeing, the 747-400 family of aircraft have 16 main landing gear wheels. The landing wheels are outfitted with structural carbon brakes that improve energy absorption characteristics and wear resistance, while also saving 1,800 pounds of weight when compared to previous brakes.
The 747-400 family of aircraft incorporates many improvements over the older models. The aircraft have higher reliability, new avionics, a new flight deck, greater range, and a higher payload capacity. The new interior allows passengers to carry 15 percent more volume for carry-on items. The 747-400 has wings that are 6 feet longer than previous 747s and winglets that are angled upward and slightly outward, which improves aerodynamics.
