The ratio of coffee to cups brewed is 1 tablespoon of ground coffee for a 6-ounce cup and 2 tablespoons of coffee for a 12-ounce cup, so 8 cups would require about 1.5 tablespoon scoops of ground coffee, depending on the serving size. This amount makes a regular strength brew.

Making stronger coffee requires more grounds. Strong coffee calls for approximately double the grounds per cup. To make 60 fluid ounces of strong coffee, about a cup of grounds is needed. These measurements apply to home coffee makers, not commercial ones, and to ground, brewed coffee, not espresso, instant or whole bean coffees.
