The Hershey Company began when the founder, Milton Hershey, decided to produce chocolate coating for his caramel products in 1894. The company originated in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and was named the Hershey Chocolate Company. Milton Hershey’s company began to produce milk chocolate products in 1900 and was able to lower the cost-per-unit through mass production. Today, the Hershey Company markets products in over 90 countries in the world and employs approximately 14,000 people.
