The annual average number of deaths from skydiving in the United States is 21.7, which is based on data from between 2010 and 2013. The average number of jumps per year for the same period was slightly more than 3 million.

The number of skydiving deaths each year has been dropping since the 1970s. The average annual number of deaths in the 1970s was 42.5. This dropped to 34.1 during the 1980s. The 1990s showed a further reduction to 32.3. The average annual rate for the first 10 years of the 21st century was only 25.8 deaths. The estimated risk of death from any one jump is only 0.0006 percent.
