A pint of sour cream contains 16 fluid ounces. An ounce is a unit of measuring weight as well as liquid volume (fluid ounces). As it happens, a pint of sour cream also weighs 16 ounces.
An ounce in net weight should not be confused with an ounce in volume. While 16 fluid ounces of water does have a net weight of 16 ounces, 16 fluid ounces of molasses, however, is more dense and actually weighs 24 ounces. A fluid ounce in the U.K. measurement system is slightly larger, equal to 1.04 fluid ounces in U.S. measurement. A U.S. fluid ounce equals 29.57 milliliters.
