Bruce Jenner won an Olympic gold medal in the decathlon in 1976 at the Montreal Summer Olympic Games. Jenner retired from competition after the 1976 Olympics.
Jenner’s win at the 1976 Olympics was a world record, the third he had set in 2 years. His previous world records were set at the USA-USSR-Poland meet in 1975 and at the 1976 Olympic Trials.
Jenner began competing in the decathlon in 1970 while attending Graceland College in Iowa. At his first Olympic games in 1972 in Munich, Germany, he placed tenth. In 1975, he finished first in the Pan-American Games decathlon.
In 1980, Jenner was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
