Fourteen crushed graham crackers make 1 cup of crumbs. Although they are often enjoyed as a snack, graham crackers in crushed form serve as an ingredient in pie crusts for cheesecakes, lemon icebox pies, key lime pies and various frozen desserts. The crumbs are typically mixed with butter and sugar.

Graham crackers were invented in 1829 by a Presbyterian minister named Sylvester Graham. Originally only slightly sweetened, graham crackers evolved into a sweet snack similar to a cookie. When used to make a pie crust, graham cracker crumbs are sometimes combined with additional ingredients such as cinnamon, chocolate chips or chopped nuts.
