How Many Cherries Are in a Cup?

One pound of pitted cherries equals approximately 80 cherries, and there are between 2 and 2 1/2 cups per pound. Therefore, using equivalent measurements, 1 cup contains approximately 32-40 cherries.

The number of cherries in 1 cup also depends on how the cherries are prepared. For example, 1 pound of canned cherries yields approximately 1 1/2 cups of cherries, or about 60 cherries. In addition, 1 pound of frozen cherries yields 1 1/4 cup, or 50 cherries. One pound of dried cherries yields 4 cups.

Frozen or canned cherries are good substitutes for fresh cherries if they are not in season. However, when using canned cherries, it is important to rinse off the juice or syrup before substituting.
