Completing prerequisite coursework for advanced cardiac life support certification results in the receipt of eight continuing education units, or CEUs. CEUs are alternatively known as continuing medical education credits, CMEs or continuing education credits.
Successful completion of coursework prior to ACLS recertification provides four CEUs. The organization that provides the ACLS certification course must be nationally recognized in order for the credits to have any transferable weight.
The National ACLS Testing Center and the ACLS Certification Institute are two such organizations. Both offer ACLS training and certification online in one to two hours. Curriculum reflects the latest American Heart Association guidelines. On both websites, the ACLS certification course retails for approximately $280, as of 2015.
