How Many Calories Do You Burn Doing Push-Ups?
Last Updated Apr 6, 2020 8:29:46 AM ET

The number of calories burned doing push-ups ranges from 1/2 to 1 calorie for each push-up, depending on the weight of the individual and the speed of the exercise. The more a person weighs, the more calories are burned for each individual move, because a heavier body must expend more energy. Faster push-ups result in more burned calories, because the heart rate increases.
Although doing faster push-ups burns more calories, the focus needs to stay on working the muscles, rather than allowing the body's momentum to complete the repetition. Push-ups are a good way to build muscle tone, but they are not the most efficient way to burn calories.
