Although William Shakespeare did not write actual books, he wrote 38 plays during his career as a playwright. His earliest written plays included "Richard III" and "Henry VI."

Some of his more popular works include "Romeo and Juliet," "Macbeth" and "Hamlet." Shakespeare's plays were originally performed by a few different companies before he formed his own after the 1592 outbreak of the plague. His works are still performed around the world and have been made into many movies.
