How Many Babies Are Born Every Second?

On average, 4.5 babies are born per second across the world, based on information from August 2014. That is equal to 273 babies born per minute, according to the Population Reference Bureau. The large majority of those births happen in lesser developed countries, where 4.1 births occur per second.
Almost 12 million new babies are brought into the world each month or about 2,766,000 each week. The Population Reference Bureau reports that on a daily basis, 393,000 babies are born. This was the approximate population of the small California city of Oakland in 2005, as reported by Infoplease. As of August 2014, the Population Reference Bureau lists the world's population at 7,238,184,000.
