There are over 23,000 airplanes in the world. Aircraft maker Boeing projects demand for new airplanes to top 35,000 over the next 20 years. The new planes are expected to meet rising demand and to replace older, less efficient models.
The number of airplanes worldwide is expected to be more than 40,000 by 2032. Global passenger air traffic is growing at more than 5 percent per year. About 184 million passengers travel into and out of the United States by plane each year.
