Who Manufactures Fitbit?
According to James Park, founder and CEO of Fitbit, an undisclosed company in Singapore holds the exclusive contract to manufacture the hardware used in Fitbits. Because the Singaporean company does not own rights to the product, it may be said that Fitbit manufactures the product itself, outsourcing it to Singapore.
Although Fitbit is an American start-up, the units themselves are manufactured and assembled overseas to ensure that consumers get the best quality for the best price. Park reported difficulty finding a manufacturer until he and his partners visited Singapore in October of 2008. Park has not disclosed the name of the manufacturer, nor its exact location on the island. After manufacture and quality testing, the units are shipped to Batam, Indonesia and assembled.
