Last Updated Mar 31, 2020 8:20:04 PM ET
A low MPV count means that there is an abnormally low percentage of platelets by volume in a blood sample. MVP stands for mean platelet volume. According to WebMD, a low MPV count is associated with certain diseases.
MPV is one of the results obtained from a standard CBC blood test. The MPV number adds information to the platelet count, which tells how many platelets are in a blood sample. If the platelet count is normal or high, a low MPV count means that the platelets are abnormally small. A combination of the platelet count and the MPV count are used in the diagnosis of platelet-related blood diseases.
